THE WAYOF CURVE 1990 /2004

Seminal filth-pop pioneers, CURVE, who influenced a whole generation of bands from Garbage and Nine Inch Nails to Marilyn Manson and beyond, finally receive the retrospective treatment they deserve this year with the release of THE WAY OF CURVE on May 17th. The Way Of Curve will be released on Anxious/BMG (82876613612(8) and is a two CD collection featuring the most crucial tracks from the band’s first three groundbreaking EPs (Blindfold, Frozen and Cherry) and their extraordinary debut LP Doppelganger. It also includes the band’s five Top 40 hits to date plus their collaborations with Aphex Twin (Falling Free), Kevin Shields (Coming Up Roses), Ian Dury (What A Waste) and their incredibly innovative and incredibly hard-to-find cover of the Donna Summer classic I Feel Love. The two CD collection features 31 tracks in total, including some of Curve’s finest b-side moments (like the Ministry-tinged On The Wheel) and follows the band up to the present day with tracks from the current The New Adventures Of Curve LP.
These days, CURVE (still) is vocalist Toni Halliday and instrumentalist Dean Garcia. They arrived fully formed back in 1991 and immediately prompted John Peel to comment that they were “the next thing you’re all going to go crazy for”. This proved to be something of an understatement as Curve became a regular fixture in the charts over the next eighteen months and their live performances brought ecstatic reviews and reports of “rival” indie bands cowering with respect. Their sound might be described as being akin to a nascent Debbie Harry fronting Jesus and Mary Chain and a nasty/cute hybrid that, to put it in the musical context of the day, managed to out-Ride and be more Bloody than the Valentines. Curve did indeed play shows with both Ride and My Bloody Valentine and played a big part in the Rollercoaster tour of the US which also featured Spiritualised and Jesus and Mary Chain.
The release of THE WAY OF CURVE is a long overdue acknowledgement that Curve are a very special band indeed. To listen to songs like Ten Little Girls and Die Like A Dog now is to realise that the band were way ahead of their time. Listen to this record and remember how good they were.

CURVE will be releasing The Way Of Curve on Anxious/BMG on May 17th 2004
